I think it's easy for people to forget how gorgeous Blue Jays and cardinals are because they are so common. I would also argue that female Red-winged Blackbirds and most sparrows have such rich layers of beautiful browns that they merit long looks to be fully appreciated.
Mourning Doves are among my favorite common birds along with jays and cardinals. I love the intricate feathering of sparrows. I often appreciate the striping on the back of Swamp Sparrows.
Its wonderful to see any humans appreciating birds. We need them...way more than they NEEDED us. The reason I say "needed", is bc before we as humans ruined almost everything for all birds practically. Now since we made this "mess" in THEIR HOME we need to do all we can to make this right by them (the birds). They entertain us daily w/their beautiful song &their physical beauty when we are privileged enough see them. Thanks for showing ppl they are a necessary part of this world

Never heard of a red winged blackbird before, I’m going off on a rabbit hole of research right now - thankyou for inspiring me!

Absolutely. We are fortunate they are still here given how dramatically we've altered the environment, leaving only fragments of what once was.
Very insightful words Autumn I totally agree
Glorious prose as always. If only I too could have “unique mannerisms, primordial calls, and simple elegance”
