For a brief time, I thought the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks could keep their name if they simply changed their mascot to a dark morph Rough-legged Hawk. Here’s a picture of a juvenile Rough-legged Hawk, as seen in THE MAGIC STUMP. It’s all chocolate brown. Dark chocolate brown. Almost like a “black hawk.”
It would have be an opportunity for the Chicago NHL team to celebrate local nature, as Rough-legged Hawks spend winter in open spaces all across Illinois.
I’ve reconsidered this idea, though, as someone who has been a life-long fan of the Cleveland baseball team, and now enjoys the nifty nickname of the Guardians.
